Basic SEO: Link building
Link building is an essential aspect of SEO.
Link building is an essential
aspect of SEO. You can write the perfect post, but if search engines can't follow
at least one link, chances are you'll be spending days waiting for visitors to
admire your excellent work. In order for Google to find your post, you
need links from other websites. The more links, the better. But
beware, the quality of the links is important! Not
all links are worth the same. Worse still: some links could negatively
affect your site.
What is a link?
Simply
put, a link or hyperlink is a
connection between two pages on the Internet. With a link, you can refer people to a page,
post, image, or another object on the Internet. Links exist for people in
the first place: with a link you can easily "travel" from one web
location to another.
But the links also serve the search engines; Search engine robots follow
links to discover pages on the Internet. This is called tracking . For a
robot to find your website, it will need at least one hyperlink from a website
that has already been crawled. Make sure you get that first link, it's one
of the things you really need to do when launching a new website.
A link in
HTML
In the HTML coding
language, a hyperlink looks like this:
<a href = "https://www.tutorialmonsters.com/que-son-los-enlaces-o-links/" > What are Links? </a>
The first part contains the URL. The
second part (What are the Links or Links?) shows the text that can be clicked
on the page. We call this text the “anchor text”.
anchor text
Anchor text has two
purposes:
1.
It should describe what
the linked page is about
2.
It should entice people
to click.
If a link has a well-crafted anchor text, this has two advantages :
1.
More people click on it, which leads to more direct
traffic
2.
It will help search engines understand what your page is about,
possibly generating more traffic from search engines .
Of course, you can't
control how others link to your site, but you can use it to improve your
internal linking.
What
is link building?
Link building refers to
marketing efforts to get links from other websites to your website. It is
seen as one of the most powerful tools to achieve a higher ranking for your
website in search engines. If many high-quality links lead
to a certain page, search engines will consider it a popular or significant
article, and therefore rank it higher. How does a link help your page rank well?
The
quality of the link
Links are not all the same. Some links are worth more than
others. For example, a link from a " high authority "
website, preferably topically related to yours, is worth more than a random
link from a small website that no one knows about. So, if you have a car workshop , we prefer to
get a link from a review in El País ( high authority ),
than a link from your cousin's website that is dedicated to swimming pool covers . This
makes choosing sites you'd like to get links from easier, but at the same time,
it makes it much harder to get those coveted high-quality links.
Bad habits
Because link building is not easy, many shady link building
methods have come up in the past. People tried to cheat the system, for
example by buying links from link farms . This is why link building gets a bad rap.
Consequently, Google stepped in with severe penalties as a
result. If your site links from websites with questionable reputations, it
may disappear from search
results entirely. Therefore, it is best to refrain from any of these link
building tricks. However, if you play carefully and smartly, you can earn
a lot from link building.
What should you do to
get links?
Now we come to the million dollar question: what do you have to do to get these valuable links? .
We believe in a holistic approach to
link building, so you will need to create a website that people want to link to . It
sounds very simple: you just have to create high quality, funny, original or
exceptional content that people want to share. But how is this done?
First of all, find out who your audience is
. Who are you trying to reach with your content? What kind of content
do they need? What information are they looking for and what kind of
questions are they asking? What words do they use? And what kind of
websites do they visit?
If you can answer these questions, it will be easier to create
content that fits the needs of your audience. Also, when you have created
that page with valuable content for your audience, and you know where your
audience is (what websites they visit), you will have a starting point to start
the tasks of link building: you can start communicating with
the owners of these websites. In a nutshell, link building is about
sharing your article with parties who might be interested in sharing it as
well. This is why targeting the right niche for your store or blog is key. This
approach decreases the number of people you will have to contact and increases
the chances of getting a link.
People will only link to you from their website if it is in the
interest of their audience (or their own interest). Convincing them to
link will only happen if your product or content is truly exceptional . Offering
them to try or use your product (if you have one) for free could help win them
over. And always make sure to contact them personally, as this will lead
to better results.
Link building takes time, effort, and persistence . As a blogger, you might fear link building even more.
Well explained...
